Also known as The Omega Nebula, Lobster Nebula and Horseshoe Nebula. Messier 17 is an HII region in the constellation of Sagittarius. Sitting at 6,000 light years from Earth and 15 light years in diameter, is considered one of the most massive star forming regions in our galaxy. To think that the light started its journey towards us when our human race was in the Neolithic Period and the first small empires were beginning to form. This target , a Summer target presents itself low on the Southern horizon after mid night. This image I managed to get published in the Astronomy Now Magazine.
