The Rosette Nebula, Caldwell 49 is a Hydrogen Alpha, HII region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the constellation of Monoceros.   The open cluster NGC 2244, Caldwell 50 is closely associated with the nebulosity.  Situated at 5,200 light years from Earth the nebula has also been noted to resemble a human skull.  Image displayed in the Hubble Palette.
